George's Square

George’s Square is the biggest square of Glasgow and is the most touristy spot in town. You can find a statue of the king the square was named after in the middle of the square: King George III. The square is surrounded by beautiful historical buildings. One of these buildings is Glasgow’s City Chambers and this building is characterized by its renaissance architecture. You should absolutely take a look around in the City Chambers. They even offer free tours on weekdays, so you shouldn’t miss this opportunity!

St. Mungo's Cathedral of High Kirk of Glasgow

This cathedral, that’s characterised by the green rooftops, is the most famous monument in Glasgow. It’s located on a hill in the East End district. This enormous gothic cathedral was built in the 12th and 13th century, so you can imagine how impressive the cathedral must look; not only from the outside, but also from the inside. Access to St. Mungo's Cathedral is free, so why not take a peek inside? If you’re on the hill, then you could also visit the Necropolis. This is a Victorian graveyard that’s located close by the cathedral. There are approximately 3500 monumental graves at the graveyard and you’ll also have a great view over the city!

Museums in Glasgow

Glasgow is a very cultural city. Many museums are settled in Glasgow and you can even enter most museums for free. Isn’t that great? However, you should check the official website of the museums in order to see whether there are any entrance fees. Do you love cultural tourism? Then you should visit the GoMa museum. This impressive building will certainly attract your attention when you walk through Glasgow. You’ll find collections of modern art inside. The Riverside Museum is one of a kind, because the museum is on a former shipyard. You’ll learn all about transportation in Scotland here. Are you more interested in science? Then you should visit the Glasgow Science Centre and they’ll tell you everything about science. So, there’s enough to learn in the Scottish city!

Kelvingrove Park

You can also enjoy the many city parks in Glasgow. If we can recommend you one, we would advise you to go to Kelvingrove Park. The Kelvin river is flowing through this park and one of the most beautiful and prestigious universities of the world is located here. The university will totally give you Harry Potter vibes, because Hogwarts was based on this university. Should you just need a little break, than you should enjoy the nature of the park. You’ll end up in the Botanical Gardens of Glasgow when you follow the Kelvin Walkway. These gardens are simply stunning, which is why they're on almost every tourist's to-do-list.

The Lighthouse

Glasgow obtained many titles over the years, amongst them The City of Design and Architecture. The Lighthouse would be the national centre of design and architecture, which is why The Lighthouse was opened in 1999. It’s still nice to visit The Lighthouse, even though you don’t like art. The view over the city is fabulous from the tower. Entrance to the Lighthouse is free.

The Pollok House

The Pollok House is a beautiful mansion that was constructed in the Edwardian period. You’ll find Spanish art and antique furniture in the mansion. This might sound a little dull, so in order to make it a little more exciting, they have turned the mansion into an Escape Room. Escape Rooms are very popular nowadays. So do you want to play a fun and exciting game? Then you should visit the Pollok House and try to escape the Edwardian mansion! The house is surrounded by gardens where you can catch a breath after the thrilling game.

Tolbooth Steeple

An enormous tower, which resembles The Big Ben of London, is located at the busiest interjection of Glasgow: The Glasgow Cross. The history of the towers don’t really have anything in common. The Tolbooth Steeple in Glasgow used to operate as a spot where people were hanged publicly. Tolbooths were placed at the most important interjections of the city, so everybody would be able to see the hangings. The other tolbooths were destructed, but they kept this one. It’s one of the oldest buildings of Glasgow.

Activities in Glasgow

There’s so much green and nature in Glasgow, so if you’re hung up on these parks then you should think about doing an activity, like cycling, walking or sailing along or on the Forth- and Clyde Canal. It's not difficult to find places where you can hire a bike in Glasgow. Scotland is known for its beautiful nature, so that's why you should at least visit one nature reserve or park in Glasgow.
