BayArena

The BayArena is a football stadium in Leverkusen, Germany. The stadium opened in 1958 and has been the home base of Bayer 04 Leverkusen ever since. The current capacity is 30,210, but it was only 20,000 after the stadium's opening; it has been renovated several times.

Cheer Leverkusen on at the BayArena

In 1999, a hotel was built into the North Curve of the BayArena, the Lidner Hotel BayArena. From the restaurant, conference room and even some hotel rooms, the hotel offers an amazing view over the football field. This is not the only special thing about the BayArena because it was the first stadium in Germany where a stand especially for families was constructed. It didn’t stop there: this stadium was also the first in Germany that transformed into an all-seater stadium.

The BayArena of Bayer Leverkusen is a stadium that has many unique aspects, making it well worth a visit. Book your football trip to Bayer Leverkusen today and experience it yourself!

BayArena’s history

The stadium was initially called Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion. The first renovations took place in 1986 when it got modernised. The renovation continued intermittently, which is why it finished in 1997. The stadium retrieved the name we now know a year later and the youth stadium next to the BayArena retrieved the old name of the stadium. Leverkusen offered to host the World Cup of 2006 but to increase a stadium with a capacity of 22,500 to a capacity of 40,000 didn’t seem very practical. The city was forced to pull back because of this. However, the stadium got used by the German national team for trainings. After further expansions, the BayArena did get elected as a host of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2011.
